While I Was Out

I have gone back to work and still trying to figure out how to juggle everything.  Working, taking care of my Mom, running my business and trying to keep up with my blogs became a little too much.  But since I have been missing my blog decided it’s time to figure out how to get it all done.

Recently I have been trying to crochet more ready to ship items (RTS).
One of the first items I decided to put in the store was this adorable little monkey.  As you can see I am still working on my photos.  I have finally been able to purchase a new camera (one of the advantages of going back to work).  Hopefully you will notice improvement in my images as we move forward with the blog.

Also I had the opportunity to purchase a life size doll to display my baby items on for pictures.  This should give everyone a better idea of how these really look.  The picture to the let is a mohawk hat that was requested from a Carolina Panther’s fan.  I loved it so much once I designed it I have added it to the shop.  Also have made it in orange and black for the RTS section of my shop.  It can be requested in any team’s colors and if it looks like the RTS ones sell well I will add more teams to the shop.  This picture was taken with the new camera and I think it shows an amazing difference between the picture of the hat and the picture of the monkey.
Will be adding at least two posts a week from now on and hope to start adding a pattern or recipe every week or so.  Have a good week everyone!

Bear Crazy

In June I took a trip to the local library. While looking through the crochet books there I saw a crocheted bear. He looked so cute I had to go home and start working on some bears. I have had a few doll joints in my stock for awhile, so decided that I would make a jointed bear. Her arms, legs and neck aare jointed.

Then I decided that I would do a string jointed bear. That is when you use a doll needle to use yarn or fishing line to attach the arms and legs to the bear so that they can move up and down. This little bear is made out of simply soft yarn and is soooo soft.

Then a  pirate bear seemed appropriate since I’m currently in the Tampa area.

Then I had the idea for this cute little cuddle brown bear. He by the way sold within a few minutes at the next show I did.

Then there was this cute little purple bear.  She was only 5 inches tall and she too sold very quickly.  Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of her and it is not very clear.

I am sure there will be more bears, hopefully I will be able to post a few patterns soon. Just seems like not enough time to accomplish all I want to. I am sure we all have that same problem.

Catch a Memory Photography

I love meeting and working with talented people.  Recently I had the pleasure of making some items for Jenae Welsh of Catch a Memory Photography in Adrian Michigan.  Jenae ordered a hunting outfit from me and I sent her my camo bunny outfit as well.  We were amazed when we saw the shots.

How adorable are these?  And how talented and creative can you get.  The set-up is so well thought out and so perfect for the baby and the outfit.

Then she sent pictures of the hunting outfit.

Amazing right, so cute!  Then she got together with another really creative person Janel Dick from Crafty Vine.  They teamed up to do Janel’s son Wyatt’s 1 year old pictures.  I have been making things for Wyatt since before he was born so was really excited to see these pictures.

I was not disappointed!  Wyatt is wearing the crazy chap pants that Janel thought up and I made for her.  The fishing hat he is also a design that Janel asked me to make.  Janel has the best ideas when it comes to outfits!  Here are a just a few of the amazing photos.

I just had to share this story.  I responded to a post in an Etsy group on Facebook, someone in my area was looking for someone to do a sock monkey newborn photo prop.  They needed it in less than 2 days.  A friend was supposed to have made one, but mailed it too late to arrive in time for photos.  Now it’s the Friday before Christmas, I’m booked plus I have gifts I’m trying to get made.  What’s a person to do?

Well you guessed it I dropped everything else and went into sock monkey mode lol.  How can you not it’s for new born pictures.  The outfit was made, and we met for the delivery and I got to see the most adorable little baby boy.  I am so glad I dropped everything and made this outfit for her.  I don’t usually get to see people when they receive these photo props.  It was gratifying to see the excitement on her and her husband’s face when they saw the outfit.  I can only hope that everyone looks like that when they receive one of my outfits.

This outfit was fun to make, thinking of several more variations!

Fall is Hunting Season

The place I grew up and most of the places I’ve lived the fall meant time to get ready for hunting.  So as fall is approaching naturally my mind turns towards hunting.   Some of these hunting items I already had in my collection, some are new.  Over the next few weeks I plan on adding more items, 2 more versions of the deer hat and thinking of a duck hat or two.

What do you think of when you think of fall?  Halloween, pumpkins, bats, hats?  All of these things can be found in our store Babbling Hook Creations  We also have a Facebook Store with Rhino’s Emporium and Mad Frills.  The hunting outfit and the pink camo boots were special requests.  I love custom orders, they allow me to create something just for you!

Custom Orders – Creativity Unleashed

I love doing custom orders when someone says for instance “I want a hunting outfit”.  That gives me the freedom to be creative, to start to design a pattern based on the wish list they gave me.  I have found that some customers have such creative minds and can think of things for me to crochet that I would have never thought of.  One of my most popular items came about from this process.  It is a hunting outfit with a deerstalker hat.  I love it and I love making them.

The hat was the first billed hat I had done so it took a few tries to get it the way I wanted it to be.  I didn’t want to have to use stiff material to make it stand out, and finally I figured out how to crochet it so it would stand out on it’s own without having to put plastic or cardboard in it.  The side flaps were fun to make and then I added 2 snaps to hold them on top.

The boots were a little more trying.  I went looking for patterns for these.  I found several patterns that I liked portions of and started to combine them for the perfect look.  These boot booties are very roomy and look awesome on little feet, they give you that clunky look that hunting/hiking boots usually have.

The diaper cover I wanted to make adjustable, because all little bellies are different.  I accomplished this by adding a row of double crochet (triple crochet on larger sizes) this allows for the cover to be buttoned at any position around.

A special shout out to Janel Dick of Crafty Vine.  She was the one who originally requested this item.  She is such a creative person and was a joy to work with her on this and several other outfits.  This one is still my favorite though.  This item can be purchased at www.babblinghook.com
