As the weather cools down hats become popular again. Have been working on lots of hats!
The black and white is a simple beanie in variegated yarn, love this. The creme colored hat is a thick yarn with sequins and is very chic. The mint green hat is just gorgeous. I made this on Friday and sold the first one on Saturday. The button on the flower is a vintage button. I love the vintage buttons!
We were fortunate enough to be asked to make a 1st Birthday outfit for a little boy. My customer sent me several pictures and had some wonderful ideas for the outfit. It is always so rewarding to be able to make someone’s vision come to life, especially when it involves their children. As a parent I remember all those special days!
I loved the baseball hat that looks like a baseball. The little shoes have small cleats on the bottom. The pants have belt loops, a fake fly and I also made a belt to match. The shirt is customized with ‘Birthday Boy’ on the front and his last name on the back and of course the #1 since it’s for that all important 1st birthday!
Marie has a wonderful eye for floral design. She works at a florist and also makes and sells her wonderful silk creations online. I’m fortunate that she has chosen my shop to sell her beautiful floral designs in. Some of her latest creations are designed for the bride to help her have that perfect day.
Her cascading bouquet is absolutely gorgeous, can you picture this being carried down the aisle by the stylish bride. And if the super sophisticated is not quiet your cup of tea look at this gorgeous bouquet with daisies for the bride who wants to keep things a little more simple.
The place I grew up and most of the places I’ve lived the fall meant time to get ready for hunting. So as fall is approaching naturally my mind turns towards hunting. Some of these hunting items I already had in my collection, some are new. Over the next few weeks I plan on adding more items, 2 more versions of the deer hat and thinking of a duck hat or two.
What do you think of when you think of fall? Halloween, pumpkins, bats, hats? All of these things can be found in our store Babbling Hook Creations We also have a Facebook Store with Rhino’s Emporium and Mad Frills. The hunting outfit and the pink camo boots were special requests. I love custom orders, they allow me to create something just for you!
Rhino’s Emporium (www.rhinosemporium.com) makes these wonderful soaps. We decided that maybe those wonderful soaps could use some soap savers. So we’re going to make the soap savers and you can purchase them both on our site at www.babblinghook.com or when you purchase soaps at www.rhinosemporium.com you can purchase the soap savers there.
They have a special dead man’s soap available for halloween, haven’t figured out which is the appropriate soap saver for that one yet. They also have an really good dog bar soap with natural flea repellents and a good cat soap. They even have a pumpkin pie soap – I wouldn’t suggest nibbling on it though.
I love doing custom orders when someone says for instance “I want a hunting outfit”. That gives me the freedom to be creative, to start to design a pattern based on the wish list they gave me. I have found that some customers have such creative minds and can think of things for me to crochet that I would have never thought of. One of my most popular items came about from this process. It is a hunting outfit with a deerstalker hat. I love it and I love making them.
The hat was the first billed hat I had done so it took a few tries to get it the way I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to have to use stiff material to make it stand out, and finally I figured out how to crochet it so it would stand out on it’s own without having to put plastic or cardboard in it. The side flaps were fun to make and then I added 2 snaps to hold them on top.
The boots were a little more trying. I went looking for patterns for these. I found several patterns that I liked portions of and started to combine them for the perfect look. These boot booties are very roomy and look awesome on little feet, they give you that clunky look that hunting/hiking boots usually have.
The diaper cover I wanted to make adjustable, because all little bellies are different. I accomplished this by adding a row of double crochet (triple crochet on larger sizes) this allows for the cover to be buttoned at any position around.
A special shout out to Janel Dick of Crafty Vine. She was the one who originally requested this item. She is such a creative person and was a joy to work with her on this and several other outfits. This one is still my favorite though. This item can be purchased at www.babblinghook.com
I absolutely love this horseshoe nail jewelry, it’s rustic, but elegant all at the same time. It’s not the run of the mill every day crosses and hearts, but a step on the unique side. Rhino hand makes each item with talent and care. No two are exactly alike, which is exactly what you want in a handmade item. When you think about the importance of a horseshoe nail you realize how creative these really are. Reminds me of the children’s rhyme:
For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
